A striking fact: the ratification of the Charter of African Cultural Renaissance by Burkina Faso, announced by Minister Tahirou BARRY to the African Union!

The ministers in charge of culture (Tahirou BARRY) and sports (Taïrou BANGRE), represented Burkina Faso at the 2nd Session of the Technical Committee for Monitoring the Youth, Culture and Sport (CTS-JCS2) of the Union African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 16 and 17 June 2016.

This Conference of Ministers of Youth, Culture and Sport of AU Member States was preceded by a meeting of experts from the relevant sectors, held from 13 to 15 June 2015, attended by MM. Stanislas MEDA, Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism (MCAT), Ardiouma SOMA, CEO of FESPACO (MCAT), Michel SABA, DG of CERAV / Africa (MCAT), and Mory SANOU, DG of Sports at Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MSL).

During this session of the CTS-JCS2 held under the theme "The African Year of Human Rights: Promoting Ethics and Cultural Diversity as a Fundamental Right of the Peoples of Africa", the work was focused on:

  •     the creation and operationalization of an African Audiovisual and Film Commission (AACC) attached to the AU;
  •     the ratification by Member States of the African Union Charters relating to Culture and Youth;
  •     the organization and operation of the African Games (JA).

The objectives of the session were to provide ministers and experts from sectors relevant to this common AU platform, to review progress in the implementation of the CTS-JCS1 decisions and deliberate on the theme of session as well as other specific items on the agenda, with a view to strengthening the synergy between the three (03) sectors.

Burkina Faso was 3rd Vice-President in the CTS-JCS2 office, in this position which belongs to the West Africa region. The Minister of Culture of Arts and Tourism now sits on this body for a two (2) year term.
